The Town is undertaking the Thornbury West Master Drainage Plan following the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Master Planning Process.

The Study Area encompasses approximately 250 ha in the areas north of Russell Street to Georgian Bay, and east of Albert Street to the Beaver River. The primary drainage outlets for the study area are the Beaver River, the Little Beaver River and Georgian Bay. The existing drainage infrastructure in the study area consists of a combination of open channels, ditches, culverts, storm sewers, overland flow routes and stormwater management facilities.

Why Now?

The Town is identifying existing drainage deficiencies, and developing drainage solutions to address deficiencies, reduce flooding, resolve public safety concerns and improve ease of maintenance.

Project Updates

The preferred alternative solutions identified through the Environmental Assessment fall into multiple different categories including:

  • Mechanical devices
  • Minor drainage system improvements
  • Elimination of Municipal drainage entering private property
  • Improving service areas absent of minor drainage systems
  • Major drainage system conveyance capacity improvements

A detailed summary of all the recommendations can be found in the Final Environmental Study Report. These solutions will be brought to Town Council for approval prior to construction.
