The Blue Mountains election will be conducted in a manner that shall ensure that candidates and electors with disabilities have full and equal access to all election information and services, including help centres.

The election will be conducted in a manner that ensures that persons with disabilities are able to vote independently and privately with access to voting assistance if required.

The Accessibility Plan for the 2018 Municipal and School Board Elections provides additional details.

You have the right to vote in municipal elections if:

  • You are a Canadian citizen; and
  • You are 18 years of age or older; and
  • You reside in or own or are a tenant of land in The Blue Mountains or you are the spouse of such a person

By voting in the municipal election, you are selecting representatives who will determine the priorities and direction of our Town.

The Town will be using both internet and telephone voting in the 2018 Municipal and School Board Elections.

Mail-in and paper ballots will not be used. With internet and telephone voting, electors will have the opportunity to cast their ballots where telephone or internet service is available. Watch video instructions for internet voting online. 

The Town will offer Help Centres and Education Centres throughout the election period to ensure all voters have the opportunity to participate. Help Centre hours are listed in the Extended Hours Help Centre pamphlet.

Electors will receive a Voter Information Letter (VIL) in the mail. The VIL includes the following:

  • The website address to vote by internet;
  • The toll-free telephone number to vote by telephone;
  • Elector Credentials - Voter ID and PIN;
  • Voter Assistance & Voter Help Centre details; and,
  • Ballot information with all candidates for each contest listed.

If you are eligible to vote in The Blue Mountains and you do not receive a VIL, contact the Clerk's Office.

The 2018 Candidates Guide has been prepared by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs to provide information to candidates in municipal and school board by-elections. 

Candidate Qualifications

Qualifications required to be a candidate for election are the same as the qualifications to vote.

The Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO) offers a new online training course that potential candidates may take if they wish to learn more about the campaign process, media relations, municipal government, and the legislative structure governing the actions of elected officials. 

Interested individuals may sign up on the Municipal Education Website. Cost for this course is $75.00 including HST.
