The municipalities forming South Georgian Bay (Town of Collingwood, Town of The Blue Mountains, Town of Wasaga Beach and Clearview Township) have released the findings of the Regional Labour Force Development Strategy.
Following securing funding through the Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board in 2011, consultant Tom Zizys was retained by the municipalities to conduct an employer survey with more than ninety-nine local business participants as well as interviews with key informants who provided their insights into local labour market issues.
Zizys highlighted three key recommendations in the executive summary of his report; focus on middle skill occupations, anticipate employers training and service needs, and implement active and dependable networks. The report contains a collection of demographics, occupations, education, industry, and income statistics with detailed analysis which includes a summary of local employers’ comments.
The findings provide a clear picture of employment in the region and will assist with retention and attraction of new businesses in South Georgian Bay. It will also provide valuable information for the employers, municipalities, and training associations such as the Collingwood District Personnel Association and South Georgian Bay Campus of Georgian College.
