72 Hour Emergency Kit/Hydro Outage Information Links/

Deputy Fire Chief and CEMC Station 2, Steve Conn, reminds everyone of the importance of having a 72 hour emergency kit.

If the power does go out, check with your provider.  Ontario Hydro has a good website with an OutageMap and allows out to sign up for Outage Alerts. Restoration times are updated often as crews work to restore power.

Collus Powerstream has a website that allows you to report and track outages. You may follow them at Twitter for updates as well @CollusPower.

Some safety tips:

  • Stay away from and report downed power lines
  • Don’t use outdoor grills or barbeques indoors
  • Don’t use generators in garages or enclosed areas
  • Keep your fridge and freezer closed. Some food can keep for 24 to 48 hours.  If in doubt throw the food out and don’t use it.
  • Have electronic devices charged up to monitor news feeds and power outage updates

If the power is out for a prolonged outage, the Town has an emergency backup generator that can be used at the BVCC for a warming area. We will inform residents if a warming centre is set up via Twitter @Town_Blue_Mtns, on our website, through local radio and media, and via e-blast.

As always, please check on neighbours to ensure they are ok.
