Alarmed for Life: Fire/CO Alarm Program

We'll be visiting you to make sure you are safe and alarmed for life!

The Town of The Blue Mountains is launching a new Smoke/CO Alarm Campaign,  and we want to make sure that you are “Alarmed for Life”

Representatives from the Fire Prevention Division will be visiting your property and do an assessment on the required and recommended Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms that are required to be in place, and assist with the installation of required Alarms. If you are not home, we will leave a "door-knocker" with information.

This program is strictly an information campaign, and its aim is to help ensure that residents are aware of their responsibilities under the Ontario Fire Code.

Dwellings must be equipped with working Smoke Alarms on every storey as well as adjacent to all sleeping areas.  In addition to installation, homeowners must also test and maintain smoke alarms.

There are also new regulations on the requirement for Carbon Monoxide Alarms as well as the testing and maintenance of the devices.

Statistics show that people who are protected by working smoke alarms and home escape plans have a much better chance escaping from a house fire.  It is heartbreaking to see families destroyed by fire.

Failure to comply with the Ontario Fire Code smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm requirements could result in a fine of $360 and up to $50,000 for individuals or $100,000 for a corporation.
